EROS & THANATOS

Installation, 16 drawings. 90" X 110", 1998
pencil, velum, wire, gravestone rubbings, on paper.

This installation has been selected for "Modern Odysseys: Greek American Artists of the 20th Century" at The Queens Museum of Art in 1999.

BORDERLINE: 1999

6 boards, 6 feet tall, enamel on wood , leaned up against the wall

This work was inspired by the contemporary Byzantine funeral memorials found on the mountain roads in Greece where accidents have occurred. I traveled this road on a trip to visit my grandparents' birth place.

With the outbreak of the Kosova war, and because of the funereal theme of the work, it shifted from a personal memory to a social critique of contemporary warfare.

It was shown at Postmasters in Chelsea, New York City in 1999.
