Facts About CCNV

The 1,350-Bed Federal City Shelter is the largest and most comprehensive facility of its kind in America.

Over 5,000,000 meals have been served since 1984.
CCNV currently provides directly the following services:  shelter, clothing, literacy and GED tutoring, and arts and education programs. Through its service providers it provides medical and dental care, mental health services, social services, counseling for jobs and housing, drug and alcohol detoxification and long-term recovery.

During the winter months, CCNV's Hypothermia Program provides continuous and ongoing transportation and support services to those without shelter, as well as 100 extra beds for single men each night.

Over 65% of the shelter guests work full- or part -time on a regular basis.

CCNV has successfully instituted an aggressive anti-drug campaign.  As a result, the area in which CCNV is located has seen the largest reduction in crime in the District of Columbia.

Restaurants, wholesale food distributors, and franchises donate over 150 tons of food to the shelter each year.

CCNV has utilized literally thousands of volunteers who come from the united states, as well as countries throughout the world, including England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Bulgaria, Poland, Holland, Japan, Denmark, and Switzerland.
