More About CCNV: Facts and Statistics

Providing Shelter:
  • The 1,350-Bed Federal City Shelter is the largest and most comprehensive facility of its kind in America.
  • We also provide clothing to our residents. Donors, including stores, contribute thousands of pounds of clothing and shoes to CCNV's residents each year. Surplus clothing is sold in The Treasure Chest Thrift Store when so designated by donors.
Providing Meals:
  • We have served over 5,000,000 meals to our residents since 1984.
  • Restaurants, wholesale food distributors, and franchises donate over 150 tons of food to the shelter each year.
Providing Outreach and Education:
  • Besides shelter and meals, CCNV provides literacy and GED tutoring, and arts and education programs.
Providing Medical Services:
  • CCNV provides medical and dental care, mental health services, social services, counseling for jobs and housing, drug and alcohol detoxification and long-term recovery.

  • During the winter months, CCNV's Hypothermia Program provides continuous and ongoing transportation and support services to those without shelter, as well as 100 extra beds for single men each night.

  • CCNV has successfully instituted an aggressive anti-drug campaign. As a result, the area in which CCNV is located has seen the largest reduction in crime in the District of Columbia.
