On September 8, the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Cecilia Kim (above) entered the enclosure as a postulant.  Cecilia had spent some time with us as an observer earlier in the year.  After a period of prayerful discernment, her request to return was accepted.

Cecilia was born in South Korea but has been a citizen of the United States for many years.  She has been a successful business woman and is also an excellent cook.  Her dishes are delicious and also works of art.

The cloistered life has been a dream of Cecilia’s almost since she joined our Secular Order.  We welcome her with joy.

Bishop Knestout blesses
the new prioress.

Every three years the Sisters hold elections for the offices of Prioress and Councilors.  In accord with our tradition, the Chapter (the solemnly professed nuns)  met on September 15th to cast their votes.  Overseeing the process were Bishop Barry Knestout and Msgr. Charles Antonicelli of the Archdiocese.  After Mass, we got down to the business of marking ballots.  Mother Virginia Marie was elected for the next term.  Her Councilors are Sister Miriam John, Sister Ana, and Sister Marie Bernardina.  We thank our Lord for these last three years and look to Him for His continued help as we strive to build up the Carmel of Port Tobacco.
