Memorial Services were held for Mrs. Lillie Carpenter at the Hildreth Methodist Church Sunday, March 15 at 3:00 p.m.
Lillie Mae Davis Carpenter Lillie May [sic] Carpenter, daughter of Elizabeth and Andrew Davis, was born in Kansas on June 14, 1884 and departed this life at the Minden Hospital on March 13, 1959 at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 30 days.
She came to live in Hildreth with her parents as a small child.
She was united in marriage to Arthur Carpenter. They resided at Buckingham, Ill. until 1907 when they came back to this community.
To this union four children were born Aura, Mildred, Lola and Wilbur.
Her husband and eldest daughter, Mrs. Shirley Harmon preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edgar Hollenberger of Benkelman and Mrs. Ralph Schou of Portland, Ore.; and one son, Wilbur of Tulsa, Okla; three sons-in-law; and one daughter-in-law; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; one step-sister, Mrs. Ethel Anderson; and one step-brother-in-law; Earnest Anderson, both of Hildreth; and by many nieces and nephews and other relative and friends.
She joined the Methodist Church at an early age and has been a faithful member since then.
The funeral arrangements were in charge of Jelden Funeral Home. Rev. Clifford Emery officiated. The music was furnished by a quartet composed of Meredith Anderson, Mrs. Jan McMines and Mrs. and Mrs. Clifford York. They sang "Old Rugged Cross," "Beyond the Sunset" and"Going down the Valley."
Those from out-of-town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Carpenter of Tulsa, Okla.; Mrs. Ralph Schou of Portland, Ore., Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hollenberger of Benkelman; Mrs. Jeananne Menikheim of Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Julian Ranft and Emery Carpenter, both of Pittsfield, Ill., Veral Carpenter of Berry, Ill., Mrs. Frances Carpenter and Elva of Bartley; Everill Carpenter of Bartley; Mr. and Mrs. Dennis York of Loup city; Mrs. and Mrs. Floyd Carpenter and Pat of Wichita, Kans.; Mrs. and Mrs. Roy Jones of Bellingham Wash.; Mrs. and Mrs. Howard Jones and Mrs. Richard Carpenter of Hastings; Mrs. and Mrs. Harry Morris of Crete; Miss Rebecca Ashby, Miss Helen Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Walt, all of Kearney.
