Dark Angel Claims Well Known Old Settler Thursday Morning; Funeral
Kankakee County has lost another old settler. The death angel visited the Charles F. Carpenter home, 1120 S. Washington Ave., on Thursday Morning at 11 o'clock and claimed Grandmother Carpenter. Her demise was caused by heart trouble.
Mrs. George H. Carpenter nee Junetta States was born on the banks of the Junetta River in Pennsylvania sixty-eight years ago. Her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Thomas States named the new daughter for the river.
In or about the early sixties, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas States and family moved to Illinois and settled near Buckingham. This trip was made overland in wagons. Mrs. Carpenter was then about eight years old. Her two brothers enlisted in the Civil War in the state of Illinois.
Mrs. Carpenter was reared and educated in Kankakee and Livingston Counties. In October [18]74 she was married to George Carpenter, who passed to the Great Beyond eight years ago this last July. Mrs. Carpenter since that time has lived at the old homestead. About ten days ago, she became ill and her daughter in law, Mrs. Charles Carpenter, brought her to her southside home. He died at this home.
Mrs. Carpenter is mourned by the following members of her immediate family: five sons: Charles, Kankakee; William, South Bend, Indiana; Roy, Chicago; Arthur and Thomas of Hildreth, Nebraska., their wives and fourteen grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held from the M.E. Church in Buckingham on Saturday afternoon at one oclock.
