Obituary - "James H. York, old time resident of Kearney county died at the home of his son at Holdrege, Saturday, May 23 at the age of 92 years, 3 months and 27 days. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Methodist church in Minden with Rev. A. W. Johnson in charge. Interment was in the Minden cemetery.
James H. York was born near Knoxville, Iowa, January 27, 1850 and died at the home of his son Harley T. York at Holdrege. He was united in marriage with Martha Jane Harding of Knoxville, Iowa on November 20, 1870. To this union were born ten children, six sons and four daughters. A son and a daughter, twins, died in infancy. A daughter, Mrs. Sadie Vedene passed away in 1927 at Kimball, Nebraska, and a son, James Chester died in 1932 at Cortland, New York.
Mr. and Mrs. York with their eldest son, came to Nebraska in November, 1873 locating in York county, later moving to Kearney county near Hildreth. In 1905 they moved to Minden where he has since resided.
Mrs. York passed away in April 1914. One June 3, 1916, Mr. York was united in marriage with Mrs. Elvira O. Garner of Minden who preceded him in death on June 24, 1941. Since that time he has been making his home with his son at Holdrege.
Mr. York was a member of the Methodist church at Minden and was a faithful attendant while he was living here. His memory will be cherished by all those who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his departure: Harley T. of Holdrege; John W. of Akron, Colorado; Mrs. Elva Franklin and Frank A. York of Alliance, Nebraska; Mrs. Mary Lanning of Kimball, Nebraska; and Charles H. York of Twin Falls, Idaho. Twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, six step-children and many friends also mourn his loss."
