WAUNETA—Esther M. Carpenter, 98, died Friday (Dec. 27, 1996) at the Heritage Nursing Home of Wauneta.

She was born April 10, 1989 in Gage County to Harvey S. and Jenny (Shindoll) Mason. she graduated from Beatrice High School and went on to nurses training in Lincoln.

She was united in marriage to Elvaro M. Carpenter in November of 1919 at Hildreth. Following her husband's death, she continued giving private nursing care in the Denver area until the early 190s when she retired and moved to McCook.

She was an active member of the Methodist Churches of Wauneta and McCook and a member of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodges of Wauneta.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elvaro, in 1947; an infant son in 1921; and one son-in-law, Frank Frattasio.

Survivors include three daughters, Maxine Bishop and her husband, A. M. of McCook, Irene Frattasio of Pembroke, Mass., and Colleen Palmer and her husband, Bill, of Florence, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Liewer Funeral Home in Wauneta with Pastor Matt Hoffman of the Hamlet Union Church officiating.

Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery.

Liewer Funeral Home of Wauneta is in charge of the arrangements.
