Lawton-Gordon-Evans Georgia Brigade

The Georgia Brigade by William R. Scaife
(2d Edition, 2002)

In the Spring of 1862, Brigadier General Alexander R. Lawton led an elite brigade consisting of the 13th, 26th, 31st, 38th, 60th and 61st Infantry Regiments, to join General Robert E. Lee's command in Virginia. Lee assigned this 6,000 man brigade to "Stonewall" Jackson's "Foot Cavalry," where they served with distinction in battle after battle from the Seven Day's until the end of the war, surrendering 664 men at Appomattox in April of 1865. Following Lawton's severe wound at Sharpsburg in 1862, the brigade was commanded successively by John B. Gordon and Clement A. Evans, and is sometimes referred to as the Lawton-Gordon-Evans Brigade.

Originally published in 1988 and long out-of-print, continuing interest and requests have resulted in publication of the 2nd Edition in an expanded format with additional maps, photographs and a more readable, 12 point Helvetica typeface.
