"In
great deeds, something abides. On great fields something
stays. Forms change and pass; bodies disappear; but
spirits linger, to consecrate ground for the visionplace
of souls." Gen. Joshua Chamberlain, U.S.V."

WHATS NEW
Sept. 22, 2003
As visitors have no doubted noted, it has been some time since I've been able to devote any energy to this project. Unfortunately personal family and professional issues that have monopolized my attention. My thanks to all those of you who have offered encouragement and my apologies to those of you who have proffered information, pictures, etc. and are waiting for some response. I will do my best to catch up over the coming months, although my life remains in considerable disarray, so your continuing patience is appreciated.
William R. Scaife, descendant of William Scaife, surgeon for the 31st Georgia, has authored a new and expanded edition of his history of "The Georgia Brigade." Originally published in 1988, the second edition includes additional maps and photographs and is presented in a more readable typeface. Check here for ordering information.
Added several items to the Chronology of the Brigade, especially in 1862-1863 (the advance into Maryland/Harpers Ferry, the flag of the 13th Georgia at Antietam, and appeals for clothing). Several of these items owe their origin to University of Texas Librarian Vicki Betts, who is creating an on-line archive of Civil-war period newspapers.
