If a line intersects a plane, but is not contained in the plane,

                           then the intersection is exactly one point.                                  


Suppose that the line and the plane intersected in two points. Then, according to postulate 3, the line would be in the plane.   This contradicts the hypothesis, that the line is not contained in the plane.
