"...an entertaining pro with an astounding voice singing a wide
variety of jazz and pop
music with style, energy and captivating beauty."
Charlene has recorded and performed in the Baltimore/Washington area as a solo artist and band leader since the 1980s. After studying classically, Charlene decided to pursue jazz and pop music. Her classical training was enhanced in 1990, when she received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to study jazz.
As she booked her own band "Fifth Avenue" more frequently, Charlene developed an entertainment agency with the same name. She still managed to sing and manage her own quartet while running her company.
In 1990, Charlene began working in radio as a producer. Soon, she produced and hosted her own daily news talk show called "Charlene At 9" on a CBS radio station. That led to television work, commercials and personal appearances. However, Charlene has never strayed too far from her first love -music. She continued to work with "Fifth Avenue" as well as several well-known Big Bands. This summer Comstock Records released a CD in Europe featuring Charlene singing one of her original compositions.
In the Washington area, Charlene has performed in a number of musicals, studied drama at Arena Stage and dance with Gale Nicholson in New York. While keeping her home base in Washington, Charlene has performed on the West Coast, New York City and recorded in Nashville and Atlanta.
