So you want to breed with  transported semen

This page provides descriptions of the various documents and matters, and your responsibilities for them, related to the breeding of mares by transported semen from BLACK FOX FARM stallions.

Identification Certificate: The Certificate is sent to you when BLACK FOX FARM receives from you the signed stallion contract. You must return this Certificate to BLACK FOX FARM as soon as possible, with the mare's identification markings drawn in ink.

 

Mare Breeding Passport: The Passport is sent to you when BLACK FOX FARM receives from you the signed stallion contract. Upon receipt of the Passport, you should complete the identification side in ink. The Passport remains with you for your veterinarian's entries and signatures, including each insemination date and each foal check. The Passport must be returned by you to BLACK FOX FARM when the mare is pronounced 50 - 70 days in foal or by November 30, whichever comes first. The return of the Passport triggers the process for return of any monies remaining of the deposit for the semen collection.

 

Delivery Certificate: The Certificate is sent in the Semen Container with each shipment of semen. It must be completed and signed by your veterinarian and returned with the Semen Container.

 

Semen Collection Deposit: The Semen Collection Deposit is essentially money on account for BLACK FOX FARM to spend on your behalf for semen collection costs. The $350 will usually cover the cost of 2 collections of semen. You will be required to replenish the account to cover any additional collections. After you return the Mare Breeding Passport, BLACK FOX FARM will return all monies not spent.

 

Federal Express: This is the most dependable overnight delivery service available. We recommend that you open an account with Federal Express to which your semen shipment can be charged. This alleviates any COD problems with sending it to a different address. Make sure someone is available to receive the semen. Whether we ship to you by Federal Express or by Air transport, please return the Semen Container as soon as possible, preferably within 24 hours, by Federal Express Standard Air or USPS.

 

Evening Notification: BLACK FOX FARM must be notified by 4:00 PM (Eastern Time) the evening before we need to collect the stallion -- two evenings before insemination if the shipment is by Federal Express. (For example, if your veterinarian wants the shipment to arrive Wednesday, then we must hear from you by 4:00 PM Monday night so the stallion can be collected Tuesday and shipped Tuesday afternoon for Wednesday delivery.) Semen to be received on the weekend requires that it be shipped to commercial addresses in certain areas. For further information on availability of weekend shipments you may contact FedEx. If possible try to avoid needing semen on Sundays.

 

Care of the Semen Container: If the container you receive comes wrapped in tape, please send it back that way. The Delivery Certificate is enclosed in a ziplock plastic bag to prevent it from getting wet from condensation. Please return it in the plastic bag.
