The
Constellation of Orion
Orion- Latin name, the Giant; Al Jabbar- Arabic
name; Sahu - Egyptian name; Mriga - Hindu name; Ksil
- Hebrew name.
- Orion is a remarkable constellation and contains easily
identifiable star formations. These formations include
the bright stars of Betelgeuse and Rigel, the three stars
of "the belt of Orion," and his
"sword" or Great Nebula.
- The constellation is associated with Auser (Osiris) in
Egypt and its appearance marks the periodic flooding of
the Nile and the triumph of life over death in the myths
of Auser and Auset (Isis).
- Robert Bauval, in the The Orion Mystery argues
that the three prominent stars in the "belt" of
Orion may have been used as orientation markers for the
three great pyramids at Giza.
