The End of the World
The city of Men-Nefer (Memphis) ancient Egypt was home to Sekhmet, one of a Triad known as the Ptah family. Under instructions from Re to punish mankind for offenses against him, Sekhmet breathes fire over the earth. So bloody is the destruction, Re repents of his order. The only way to stop the slaughter is to feed Sekhmet on red beer mixed with mandrake root ordererd up from the Elephantine. She falls asleep and awakens in her benign aspect.  Sekhmet is associated with healing and Egyptian physicians often included an invocation to her in their ministrations.

In her anthropomorphic form, Sekhmet is depicted as a seated woman with a lion's face. She wears a wig and a sundisk.

 Egyptology - The English

The Egypt Exploration Society was founded in 1882 by Miss Amelia Edwards as the Egypt Exploration Fund. The purpose of the Fund was  to explore, survey, and excavate at ancient sites in Egypt and Sudan, and to publish the results of this work.

Egypt Exploration Society teams are working on a number of major sites and projects including  a fieldwork project in Memphis, the capital of ancient Egypt . The broad goal of the survey is "to investigate, record and interpret the development of Egypt's 'northern capital' from pre-occupation in the fourth millennium BCE to post-abandonment in the seventh century CE.

In the night sky:
Ancient Egyptians feared the appearance of the seven arrows of Sekhmet (Pleides rising?)  They are the harbingers of Spring which begins with the Vernal Equinox on March 20. As the moon rises on the 3rd of the month you will notice that an eclipse is underway. Venus shakes out her bright locks and moves from watery Pisces to fiery Aries. The great carnivores are also on the move -- the Bear, the Lion and the Sea Serpent.
