My Background

Hello everyone and welcome to more of my home page. I'm very glad that you made it this far . . . and I hope that you'll stick around long enough to get to know just a little bit more about me, my family, and my life.
This is a picture of yours truly working hard in Mallorca, Spain.
I was born in a rural "country" kind of place in central Virginia called Powhatan. I guess you could say I had an "All-American" childhood. I grew up with horses, many other types of animals, bike riding, scouts, and 4-H. I also played football and soccer. I was a teacher for nine years and I enjoyed it immensely. I then became an assistant principal for two great years. I was the principal at the extraordinary Walker-Grant Middle School in Fredericksburg, VA. for the years 1999-2001. We had a great time and our school experienced tremendous academic progress. I am now the principal of Amelia County High School. It is both an honor and a challenge that I am looking forward to. I enjoy travel both in the USA and around the world. I have taught in both Puerto Rico (a beautiful island with wonderful people) and England (a place so rich in history).
I am certified as a K-12 principal and I'm now
working in Amelia County, Virginia. Amelia is a beautiful rural county in southside
Virginia, about 30 minutes west of Richmond. I received my M.Ed. in International
School Administration from Trenton State College (They've changed their name to The College of New Jersey). I attended their program
for international educators in Mallorca, Spain. I am very interested in international
education and what we can learn from the experience of other countries. I am also
very interested in the use of technology to improve education. I plan on earning my
Ph.D. or Ed.D. soon and I am investigating Doctoral programs in those areas. I
received my undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech (Go
Hokies!!!) For more detailed information, here's my resume.
My Family
I grew up in a great family of five. My parents, Allen and Carol Cook, were all
that parents were meant to be. Sometimes they were strict, but I probably needed it! I
have an older brother, Kenneth, and a younger sister named Lisa. I am the happy uncle of
six! But the light of my life is my wife, Susan.
She has taught both kindergarten and third grade. She has also student taught in second
and sixth grade. She is certified Pre-K -8 in any subject. Having has completed her
Master's degree in College & Career Counseling and most recently was an elementary
school guidance counselor in Prince William County, VA.
