WESTCLOX CLOCKS
Several manufacturers produced clocks for the Model A Ford.
The most well known clock used in Model A Fords was the Westclox Auto Clock
manufactured by the Western Clock Company of LaSalle, Illinois. The Western Clock
Company had been manufacturing clocks since the 1800s.
One type of clock made by Westclox was the clockmirror. This consists of an inside
rearview mirror with a clock installed in the face of the mirror. A
reproduction version of this type of clock is available through Model A parts
vendors. Original versions of these clocks are difficult to find.
Below is a photograph of an original Westclox clockmirror in its original box. The
clockmirror belongs to Mr. Jim Lindberg, a Model A owner and accessory collector from
Minnesota.

Two more types of Westclox were also sold for the Model A Ford. An example of an early
type of Westclox is shown below.

This clock was advertised as early as 1928. The clock mounted flush to the header
with two screws. It was wound by a stem with a knurled knob. The clock was
available with either a white face with black numbers or with a black face and luminous
dial. The clock with the white face sold for $2.50 while the clock with the
luminous dial sold for $3.50.
The picture above is provided by Ron Cloat of Peoria, Illinois. Ron states that the
clock was taken out of a low mileage AA truck.
A second style of Westclox that was popular with the Model A Ford mounted to either the
header or the dashboard. The housing of the clock had a Butler Nickel finish and a
wheat-like design. It was also available with a white dial and black numbers (shown
below left), and with a black face and luminous dial (shown below right).

Most Model as seen today with a Westclox have it mounted to
the header above the driver. The clock is fastened with two screws through a
pivoting mount fastened to the upper rear portion of the clock.
Again, the white faced clock sold for $2.50 and the one with the luminous dial sold for
$3.50.
In 1931, Westclox introduced a similar clock mounted with a pivot, but with a square
face. This clock came only with a luminous dial and retailed for $5.00. Below
is a view of this clock.
