MOBIL PEGASUS
LICENSE PLATE TAG
This license plate tag is not a Model A
specific accessory, however we received a request from the Dallas Model A Club to include
it in the accessory section which we are happy to oblige.
Mr. John Icenhower of Sulpher Springs, Texas provided the picture and information.
Mr. Icenhower states:
"Here is a popular piece in Dallas, Texas and surrounding areas. There is a
huge Mobil Pegasus on top of the Magnolia Building in downtown Dallas that has just been
restored. It is lit in neon and revolves. There are several versions of this
license plate tag with various slogans such as "Drive Safely" and
"California Worlds Fair". I think I read that Mobil didn't actually adopt
the "flying red horse" as their mascot until 1934 but would have been used on
Model A's from that point on. Several members of the Dallas Club have these and they
are a sought after piece."

The Mobil Pegasus shown above was found last
fall at the Pate Swap Meet in Fort Worth, Texas. The piece retains most of its paint
and shows only a little wear, apparently from being laid down on its front face. The
condition of the bolt hole in the mounting flange indicates that the tag as seen very
little use, if any at all.
Below is a version of the Mobile Pegasus with the "Drive Safely" message that
was recently seen on a coupe that attended the 38th Annual Wisconsin Rapids Model A Ford
Reunion in Wisconsin.

Is there anyone else that has a license plate tag from the
Model A era that they would like to share with the rest of the Model A World?
