REMOTE DRAIN PLUG
Shown in the photograph below is a remote drain plug
manufactured for the Model A Ford. The drain plug allows the draining of the engine
oil from the crackcase without crawling under the car. The example of the drain plug
shown below is provided by Mr. Ron Cloat, owner of Standard Auto Parts in Peoria,
Illinois.
|
The unit consists of a slide unit that screws
into the drain opening of the Model A oil pan. Attached to the slide unit is a cable
and knob. Depressing the knob opens the slide and allows the engine oil to drain
out. The knob is spring loaded so the slide closes when the knob is released.
A bracket on the cable attaches to the water outlet on the side of the engine.
Below is a picture of the spring loaded knob. Unfortunately, the bracket that
attaches to the engine water outlet on the example shown here was broken in the past.
Stamped on the knob are the words Oil Drain.

The picture below shows the slide unit that screws into the drain opening of the oil pan. Stamped on the slide unit are the words U.S. CO and indication that a patent was pending.

Ron removed the unit shown from a Ford Model
A Roadster. Due to the length of the unit, the plug size, and the mounting, it is
believed that this remote drain plug would work only on a Model A Ford engine.
