WINDSHIELD DEFROSTERS
Several aftermarket windshield defrosters were available for
the Model A Ford. One of these was the "SEE-CLEAR Windshield
Warmer" shown in the picture below. The picture was provided by Bob
Compton, a regular on Dale's Model A Bulletin Board who found the unit on Ebay.

The "SEE-CLEAR Windshield Warmer"
is advertised as fitting all cars including the Model "A" Ford. The packaging
states that the unit will remove sleet, snow and ice, and provide ample vision to safely
operate the car. The defroster is approximately 11 inches long and mounts to the
windshield using two small suction cups. An electrical cord containing two leads
extends from the unit. One lead is fastened to the ammeter or another live
electrical source. The other terminal is attached to a ground post on the car.
A switch on the front of the unit is used to turn it on and off. The
instructions recommend turning off the switch when not in use.
Another example of an aftermarket windshield defroster for
the Model A Ford is the "CLEAR VIEW Windshield Heater" pictured below.

The pictures of the "CLEARVIEW Windshield Heater"
are provided by Brad Werner of Washburn, Wisconsin, who is restoring a 1931 slant window
sedan. Brad bought the heater unit, still in its original packaging, from an
auction on Ebay. According to the packaging, the "CLEARVIEW Windshield
Heater" fits the Model A Ford and removes ice, snow and sleet for an unobstructed
view. The unit is approximately the same length as the SEE-CLEAR and also mounts to
the windshield with suction cups, but the CLEARVIEW has a single electrical lead
with an accessory type plug. The accessory plug appears to plug into the dashlight
socket. The electrical plug and the suction cup mounts can be seen in the picture
below.
