This page pays tribute to the Model A Ford built from 1928 to 1931.  Other than the Model T, the Model A Ford is perhaps the most popular antique automobile in the world.   Approximately 5 million Model A Ford cars and trucks were produced and many are being restored today.   A short history of the Model A Ford presented by the Automotive Service Technology Department of the Catonsville Community College can be found here.

The 1931 Deluxe Tudor pictured above is our pride and joy.  Deluxe Tudors were primarily manufactured between June 1931 and the end of Model A production in August 1931.  Information shows that Ford  produced an initial 364 Deluxe Tudors in late 1930 at the Rogue plant.  One source indicates these early Deluxe Tudors were sold in Canada.   The Deluxe Tudor was an attempt to improve Tudor sales by adding features found on Deluxe models.  Because of the limited production run, less than 24,000 Deluxe Tudors were produced.  The Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA)  webpage has a discussion and comparison of  Deluxe and Standard Tudors.

Our Deluxe Tudor was built at the Atlanta plant and sold in Georgia to its original owner, who owned it for over 25 years.  The second owner bought and restored the car in 1957.  The same gentleman owned the car until April 1997 when we bought it.  Because the second owner had several other Model A Fords, the Deluxe Tudor had been driven only occasionally but was continuously maintained. The car is mostly original, including having most of its original interior.  It is painted in its original colors of Ford Maroon and Black.  In the Spring of 1999, the engine that had powered the car faithfully for 68 years without an overhaul finally gave up the ghost and noisily demanded a rebuild which it got.  Because the car is used for touring the engine rebuild included additional goodies such as hardened valves and guides, balancing of the engine and counterweighting of the crankshaft.  The car is fun to drive and we tour in it whenever we can.

Another aspect of the Model A hobby is Era Fashions.  Era clothing adds an extra bit of authenticity to the Model A hobby and is always a big hit when worn for a fashion show at Model A events or just while driving the Model A.  Shoes, purses, hats, jewelry and other accessories can be collected to complete the outfits.

Not only is the Model A Ford a fun car to own and drive, but it also provides a chance to meet some of the nicest people in the world.... the Model A owners!  We have "met" a number of Model A people across the U.S. and around the world via the Internet.  We have also been lucky enough to meet some of these same people in person. We hope to personally meet more of our Model A friends in the future.

THE GALLERY
Some of the cars owned by Model A friends can be seen in the Model A Gallery.
The vehicles in the gallery are not the overpriced "trailer queens" that seldom see the pavement, but either original or very nicely restored vehicles that are used for the fun and enjoyment only a Model A Ford can provide.
