Goal
The American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce (AUCC) seeks to promote trade and investment between the United States
and the Republic of Uzbekistan. In doing this, the AUCC places primary emphasis on addressing the needs of its membership
in both countries.History
The AUCC came about through the efforts of a small working group--consisting of NUKEM, Inc., White & Case, and Navoi
Mining & Metallurgical Combine--formed during the summer of 1993. The level of interest in such an organization quickly
grew, and by September 1993, the AUCC was formally established by over a dozen founding members. Today, our
membership numbers over sixty, and is growing steadily.
Partners
The AUCC works closely with the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Washington, D.C., Uzbek Government officials
from the Ministry for Foreign Economic Relations, various representatives from the U.S. Department of State, U.S.
Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent, as well as non-governmental organizations. The AUCC also
works with other business councils and organizations involved in Central Asia as well as other regions of the Newly
Independent States to collect, analyze, and quickly disseminate information to its members, to keep them apprised of changing
developments.
Achievements
- Worked successfully to help bring about the historic meeting between President Clinton and President Karimov in June
1996.
- Contributed to the early signing of a Bilateral Trade Agreement between the United States and Uzbekistan.
- Inaugurated a series of regular conferences with the May 25-26, 1997 AUCC Tashkent meeting
- In May 1997, assisted with bringing the first U.S. Congressional delegation to Uzbekistan since U.S.-Uzbek bilateral
diplomatic relations were established in 1991.
- Introduced a series of monthly program events, featuring prominent American and Uzbek government officials, business
executives and non-profit sector leaders.
