REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE PROGRAM

This program addresses the needs of individuals who are mentally or physically incapable of managing their financial affairs. A Representative Payee is a volunteer who is trained to keep records and handle the finances of incapable adults. At this time there is a waiting list of clients needing Representative Payees. If you would like to volunteer your time in this ministry please call Dana Davis via the church office at 301-863-8551.

Ascension has parishioners who are heavily involved in the program and it’s been going on for years. The program is administered through the Social Security Administration.  The Administration relies on volunteers to help people who are dependent upon Social Security income.  The Representative Payee works one-on-one with persons who need help to manage their finances.  Typical of the work of a Payee, they may help a homeless person find a place to live, sees that the person’s rent is paid, that their insurance payments are current and each week gives them an allowance.  Without the Payee’s assistance the person, who may be illiterate or unable to manage their modest income, would once again be homeless and at night sleeping beneath the stars.

This program is in critical need of volunteers.  The client list is much larger that the current number of volunteers can handle.  The effort is minimal; only once a month to deposit money in their account and to write out two or three checks for his or her care.  Please consider helping those who cannot help themselves...
