Do you remember the poster of Uncle Sam poster pointing to you and saying:  Wanted – A few good people?  Well, the EFM program is looking for a few good people, too.

EFM (Education for Ministry) is NOT a preparation for priesthood.  It IS a study of your personal ministry in the community of Christ.  EFM is a four-year program, but don’t let that scare you away.  The years need not be completed consecutively, and the program is transportable (EFM happens across the world).  What’s that commercial say:  Try it; you’ll like it!  Take a chance on year one to see how well EFM meets your religious and educational needs.

The first year you will read and discuss the Old Testament.  Each lesson has a study guide containing goals for the lesson and from 15 to 30 pages of supporting material.  Preparation time devoted to reading this material might be 2-4 hours per lesson or more if you wish to look at additional material.  Part of the class is composed of a discussion of the material you read for the week along with insights you may have from previous experience.  A second part of EFM class deals broadly with the idea of education for ministry.  No, this does not mean that you are on track to be a minister!  However it does further the idea that all baptized Christians are called to be active participants in the whole ministry of the church.

Classes for EFM will begin in the Fall and each class will last for about 2 hours.  Classes are suspended for holidays such as Christmas.  While regular attendance is expected, allowances are made for job or home-related absences.  Current plans are to meet Wednesday evenings at St. Andrews Church, but those are subject to change to meet the needs of the class.

For more information and details, please call The Rev Paula Robinson, St. Andrews Church, at 301-862-2247.  Or check out the EFM website:  www.edowefm.org/index.html .  Dana Davis and Maggie Maupin are recent “graduates” of EFM and either would be happy to talk with you about the program and show you the class materials.

We need 6-8 people to insure an energizing discussion.  Won’t you consider joining?  Contact the Church Office at 301-863-8551 or Dana Davis for more information or to sign up.
