Disciples
of Christ in Community
You are invited to Explore The Heart
Of Christian Faith when you join members from 9 or 10 Episcopal
churches in the Diocese to participate in Disciples of Christ in
Community (DOCC). This program is weekly on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9pm with an optional
supper at 6pm.
Our hope is that participants from various churches
who take DOCC will take what they have learned back to their own churches and
maybe offer a full DOCC program in their churches.
For more information please look on the table located
in the Khinoo Reading area or you can call Ms. Sheri Jackson at 202-537-6222.
Social Outreach
One of our parishioners, Doug
Engel, has requested that the Church of the Ascension help with his Marine Unit’s
efforts to provide assistance to the local civilians near his base in Iraq. The Marines there are trying to
normalize their lives, and would like to provide needed school supplies for the
local children. In particular,
they need inexpensive backpacks (plain colors - no cartoons, etc.),
paper (especially 8.5” x 11” sketch pads), pens, pencils, markers, crayons,
scissors, and rulers (in centimeters). The local women, who typically have sewing skills, are
trying to start cottage industries, and would appreciate donations of fabric
(conservative, light weight cottons in solids and prints), patterns for
children or adults, any sewing supplies such as scissors, pins, needles, tape
measures and sewing rulers, fabric markers, and notions (buttons, zippers,
thread, elastic). A final request
is for women's toiletries (no makeup).
Take a look around the house
for any spare items that you will not be using. If not, check with friends, neighbors and co-workers, or
give up Starbucks for a week, and go shopping! Again, check around the house for sample packs or
duplicates, or have received gifts that will not be used. Consider passing them on. No pump bottles please -- they leak too
easily. Small, individually
wrapped candy works wonderfully as packing material, and is a lot more fun than
foam noodles, and are sure to be appreciated as well. Please bag or mark all items “For
Iraq” and drop them off at the church office or in the Narthex. Items will be collected continuously
and sent over to Iraq via the most efficient methods of shipment. Thank You for your support!
