Technology Applications: Publishing on the Web

Course Objectives:
l. Describe the advantages and disadvantages for teachers to publish on the WEB
2. Describe strengths and weaknesses of homepages already on the WEB
3. Describe 8-10 types of information that might be used in a school homepage
4. Describe 3-5 lessons/activities which might be best done by creating
a webpage, rather than traditional teaching techniques
5. Create a webpage using Netscape Communicator (or Claris Homepage) that might
includes the following items:

Advanced techniques you might get to if you start out at a higher level: Sessions :
l  Teachers Publishing on the Web
 Observing another teacher's Web Publishing
Making a Webpage with Netscape Navigator or Claris Homepage
(basic info: NEW, background color, photo, text, saving, link to mainpage)

2  Investigating other Teacher and School Webpages for ideas,
strengths and weaknesses, applications

3  Adding graphics(from Internet) and tables, adding links to Internet,
lab work on your page

4  Creating your own graphics from Kidpix,Claris with graphic converter,  Quicktake images,
more lab work on your page

5  Adding email button, linking pages, final lab work

Course Requirements to get the 30 Professional Development Points:
-Come to five sessions, discuss information from objectives 1-4
-Produce one HTML document  which could  be published on a school Homepage
(which includes many of the 10 items listed above)
 
 
Session One: Getting Started with Netscape Communicator
Session Two: Investigating other Teacher and School Webpages 
Session Three: Adding Graphics and Tables and Links
Session Four: Creating your own graphics , adding Quicktake photos
Session Five: Adding email, linking pages, Internet Projects
