Course Abstract:
    Teachers   use  Netscape Communicator to Acccess the Internet for the Two Primary Purposes:
        -Electronic Communication with others
        -Information Retrieval from up-to-date worldwide information

Course Objectives:

View the Virginia Teacher Competencies in Technology

  •  How to send, receive, and manage your electronic mail files
  •  How to use  the WEB to find materials for classroom use
  •  How to download Internet materials
  •  How to join Newsgroups to access information and teaching resources
  •  How to manage student Internet use in the classroom
  •  How to use the Internet for student learning experiences


  •  Course Sessions:
     Session One - Netscape Communicator Basics:   Managing your mail, Newsgroups  and Listserves, Electronic Penpals , Managing Bookmarks

    Session Two - Internet Resources: Using Search Engines, Copyright Issues, Downloading,  Ask An Expert,  References on the WEB

    Session Three - Managing your classroom for Student Internet Use

    Session Four - Student Learning experiences on the Internet

    Session Five - Multimedia Projects and Webpage Development

        Creating an Online Elementary Learning Activity

    Course Evaluation:

     Teacher/student will create a collection of :

            Notes and information from workshop activities,
            Handouts from class,
            Internet addresses with annotations ( at least 15),
            Email addresses of class participants, Internet friends
            Lists of
                Internet Activities I Plan to Do This Week,
                Internet Activities I plan to do This Summer,
                Internet Activities  I Plan to Do Next Year with Students
            Drafts of  lesson plans for the Internet  (at least 3)
