He was born in Santiago on the 8th of May of 1922. Vitillo studied for his bachelor's degree in Sarmiento College. Once the family reunited in their new home in Buenos Aires in 1939, he came of age performing with the Hermanos Abalos. Vitillo plays the bombo and the quena for the group as well as singing with Machaco. He is also in charge of rhythm and percussion, and dances a mean "Malambo"(A form of tap dancing in the Gaucho style) He is married to Nelida Miranda and has two children, Graciela y Victor (Vitillito) and six grandchildren. Vitillo currently hosts a radio show in Buenos Aires on Saturdays from noon to one.
