Prof. Sachs has been with Disability Support
Services at Montgomery College for the past twenty years. She is a founding
mother of the Learning Center, the College Access Program (a developmental
program for students with learning disabilities), and the Assistive Technology
Laboratory. Rose is a counselor and diagnostic/prescriptive learning
specialist for students with disabilities, as well as department chair. She
has an MSW from the University of Maryland and is a certified clinical
social worker. Rose is currently pursuing research in Disability
Studies, an emerging field of scholarship in which disability is viewed
as a minority model and social construct. She was a member of the
negotiating team for the current faculty contract.
Rose is involved in a variety of area coalitions, disability-related community groups, and professional associations. She is from and continues to maintain her ties to New York, both in time spent and attitude. Her interests include the arts and women’s issues. She is an accidental gardener and occasional gourmet cook. Her most valued assets are her three (plus one) children and six grandchildren. Rose shares her home with a Saint Bernard. |
Harry Zarin -- Governance Liaison/ PastPresident

Prof. Zarin started at MC in August, 1993 and continues at the Germantown campus as an Associate Professor/Counselor providing personal, career, transfer, and crisis counseling to students and assisting students with their selection of classes. He teaches student development classes including Study Skills, Career Development, and College Survival. He coordinates the provision of disability related services and accommodations on the Germantown campus, which also includes providing training and consultation with faculty as needed. He has served on and chaired the College wide Advising Committee, the ADA Compliance Committee, and was the Chapter's Chief Negotiator in 2000. He then served as President of the MC Chapter of the AAUP for the next 3 years. As part of Banner Implementation Team for 3 years, he assisted several other counselors in the development of a training program and training materials and trained the faculty and staff at the College in the use of the new student information system. Prior to joining MC, Harry worked as a Rehabilitation Counselor for a private company that specialized in helping workers compensation recipients return to work -- both a challenging and rewarding job. He worked at The American University for several years as the Associate Director of the Financial Aid Office, and for 10 years at Gallaudet University both as Job Placement Counselor and Assistant Director/Vocational Rehabilitation Coordinator. He has also worked as an interpreter for the deaf on a part time basis for over 20 years. Harry has a BA in Psychology and MS in Rehabilitation Counseling from West by God Virginia University. While at the University he was a buff member of the gymnastics team for four years and cheerleader for two years. Harry, his wife Starr – an interpreter for the deaf at Barnsley Elementary – his daughter Jordan, and Zoe the beagle live in Rockville, Maryland. |

Rick Penn - Vice-President/Rockville
Prof. Penn started at MC as an adjunct in August 1995, and has been a full time member of the Rockville Math Department since January 1996. Rick has been an active member of AAUP since joining the negotiating team in 2000, and has served since that time in various elected roles and on several joint management-labor committees. In addition to his teaching responsibilities and work for the Chapter, since May 2008 he has served as the Campus Honors Coordinator for Rockville. |

Jason Fuller - Vice-President/Takoma Park

Prof. Fuller started at MC in 2005 as a member of the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Biology Department. Jason teaches Principles of Biology I and II – BI107 and 108 – and coordinates both courses at the TPSS campus. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Faculty Council at TPSS and is the TPSS campus contact person for the Writing in the Disciplines program at the college. Jason holds a BS in Biology from Western Washington University and a MS in Entomology from Oregon State University. In his spare time he enjoys insect collecting, photography, disc sports and rock climbing. Jason lives with his wife, Nicolle, and their dog, Amelia. |
Stephanie Pepin - Secretary/Rockville

Talbot began his first year of teaching at
Montgomery
College as an Associate Professor in the fall of 2002. Prior teaching
experience includes Hood College in Frederick, MD at both the graduate (MBA)
and undergraduate level. Prior to Hood College Bill taught at Texas Woman
University in Denton, TX.
Prior to teaching, Bill owned and operated his own business for eleven years before selling the business in 1996. Bill has been an active CPA since 1991 and is a member of AAA and MACPA. Bill received his MBA in Management from Golden Gate University in 1983. Prior to owning his own business, Bill spent six years in the USAF flying F4Gs. Bill lives in Dayton, MD with his wife, Laura, their son Christopher, and their daughter, Lauren. Their oldest son Mark works for IBM in Austin, TX. Their middle son is active duty US Coast Guard in North Carolina. In his spare time Bill enjoys jogging, bicycling, and camping with the family. The family dog, Buddy, a cocker spaniel, loves staying at home. |

Tim Kirkner - Grievance Officer
|
Professor Tim Kirkner joined the college in 1993 and has since been involved in many campus and college wide committees. He has been the chair of the calendar committee as well as a member of the Rockville faculty council. Tim was also a member of the implementation team for the Banner system. He currently coordinates advising for the counseling faculty and liaisons with the instructional faculty cadre coordinators. Professor Kirkner has presented at conferences in San Francisco CA., Lancaster PA. and Frederick MD, on topics ranging from advising using the banner system to teaching online. He has taught both the DS102 and DS103 classes online and became a certified distance counselor in November 2004. Professor Kirkner holds B.A. and M.S. degrees from McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College). He has been a member of AAUP since his first day on campus. His passion outside of work is spending time with his wife, Becky, their three children and various animals that live with them in Damascus. Tim is also an accomplished runner who has completed over a dozen marathons including two in Boston. |
